I'm a recently retired indy wrestler who's rode for all but the last 8 yrs. Returning to the scene was exciting in part because of the fine vehicles available. The last quad I owned was an '89 Quadzilla. Awesome bike! Today, there are several quality chioces. My interest came down to the Honda 450R, the Suzuki 400Z, and the YFZ 450. All great rides with various pluses. The decision was tight. I chose the YFZ 450 for several reasons besides its appearance. Ergonomically fit for my frame, it delivers great and MANAGEABLE power with a low center of gravity. It gets sideways with ease and feels light and manueverable in the air. The suspension was a BIG factor. It's 3-way adjustable and still a bit STIFF at softer settings, so the more AGGRESSIVE the ride, the better the handling. Finally, the motor itself. Very responsive yet not overly abrupt. The stock powerband really kicks in at the midrange. Great for the track and trails at good speeds. Having adhered to the break-in period guidelines and since surpassed that mark, I have experienced zero faults or difficulties. With proper maintenence, all should stay fit. The lights illuminate trails surprisingly well, even on reg. beams. However, the seat is not for the soft of tail (Suzuki has the right idea) and a stock kickstart would've been nice. I've also taped up some of the wiring for added protection (taillight). All together, I absolutely love this ride. It handles to the nines, fits my stature, and the power almost reminds me of Quadzilla in ways.........almost. Moreover, I would encourage anyone to investegate each brand to truly see what suits them best. Short of a few details, this article could've been about the Suzuki 400Z. Hopefully this reveiw helps your search for the proper vehicle. If you're anything like myself, the Yamaha YFZ 450 is an excellent choice among excellent choices.
